The construction Ondiep started on a small scale in 1915.
It is a typical working-class neighbourhood, situated between the Vecht and Amsterdamsestraatweg, in city district Noordwest.
The last years, the structure of the neighbourhood has changed and more young working people and students now live here.
By far the most houses in Ondiep (82%) are owned by housing corporations. Ondiep has lots of family homes.

Mid 2005, large-scale restructuring started with renovation, demolition and new houses. This development is on-going and gives the neighbourhood a huge boost.
The neighbourhood has its own football club D.H.S.C.(DOS Holland Stichtse Boys Combinatie) and is May 2012, conference centre De Speler opened its doors, including a restaurant of the Salvation Army+K11.
